Statement about the show from Michèle:

Abstract art has been beckoning me for months so when Porter Mill asked me to do a show in their gallery I took the plunge! Abstract painting is an exciting process with an emphasis on expressing what I am thinking and feeling at the moment and not getting bogged down with details. Less is more, keep it simple . . . as painter and teacher, Debora Stewart, taught me.

This will be a new departure for me as all the work will be abstract, which will reflect our thoughts and feelings about the world around us. Georgie O’Keeffe defines abstract art as “the most definite form for the intangible thing in myself that I can clarify in paint."

I invited abstract painter, Terry Del Percio-Piemonte to join me because of her rich, textural and heartfelt abstract paintings. Our work complements one another—Terry’s work in layered and colorful acrylics and mine in soft pastel. The abstract painting process is a thoughtful one but allows me the freedom of gesture, texture, line and color. My hero, Wolf Kahn, sums it up well: “People mistakenly think that art is about nature, or about an artist’s feelings about nature. It is instead a path of enlightenment and pleasure, one of many paths, where nature and the artist’s feelings are merely raw material.”
