Semi-abstract to Pure Abstract

I have always been attracted to the endless colors and shapes in nature — the green/gray lichen on tree bark, emerald green moss-covered rocks, black tree branches silhouetted against the blue sky. These patterns inspire me to paint in a semi-abstract way. Abstraction allows me to express the essence of the scene rather than dwell on the details. Looking at nature close up I see the “microcosm in the macrocosm.” The “micro” is the heart, the core, the life of the landscape. The “macro” is the entire world surrounding these fragments. If a viewer looks at these paintings and discovers something they have not observed before or thought about, then I have succeeded.
